This is kind of a stupid thing, but my A/C is not functioning AND winter is coming, so I just unplugged the harness plug from my A/C compressor. Now some tension is released from the belt and the compressor is now just freewheeling. Adds maybe 5 horsepower

Gotta agree with MAKG on this one. unless the compressor it self is turning (ie the air conditioning is on and the system is working properly to engage the compressor) all it is is another idler pulley. unhooking the wiring harness does nothing to that fact, it just makes it so you cannot engage the compressor. (which if your a/c does not work anyways, that is a moot point)

The only other way that your compressor woiuld be turning continuously would be if the clutch is frozen or you have a short in the system whre it supplies continuous power to the clutch (bad relay perhaps). If it is frozen, unhooking the harness will do no good. if there is a short, yeah, this will fix it, but in ether of the two cases I would look as to why it is doing it.

OK, I'll admit, I'm a NUBE! MAKG and 97RangerXLT, what you said makes sense. Sorry about my lack of knowledge, and next time I will think about what the hell I'm doing. Still love the site and my RANGER!
