Compatable or not??

is it possible to swap a 5 speed m50d-r1 from a 96 4.0L 4x4 ranger into a 99 explorer 4.0L with a 5r55e? Need to know b/c there is a guy that wants to buy my tranny to put in his explorer and is wondering if it will bolt up.

Sure it will "bolt up," but that's not all there is to it.

Yes, they can be retrofit. He'll need quite a few additional parts to pull it off.

Such as the clutch disc, flywheel, pressure plate, throw out bearing, slave cylinder, clutch master cylinder, lines, resivoir, and that third pedal. lol

No, the trans doesn't "bolt up", one of the bellhousing bolts is slightly different on the OHV 4.0L ('96 Ranger) vs. the SOHC 4.0 ('99 Explorer). I've heard there are ways to make it work, although many people won't want to deal with something like that.

wow! haha sounds like a lot of work, I got another guy that actually wants to buy it for his ranger so done have to worry about it being a JOB for that guy to fit it into his explorer. Thanks for all the info though
