Coleman Liquid Fuel

At least once. There's heat marks and soot on the bottom. Not sure where the date stamp is.

Here is the instruction sheet, copyright or printing date 10/67. I have the ice chest pictured on it - dark green with white bottom (6/62 molded into the bottom). It doesn't seal great anymore. So its just a storage box - with steel hinges and steel cam-lock latch. Why don't they make them like that anymore. It obviously lasts a while.

He was probably one and done with it... the ovens and the stand up toasters are pretty bad. Toaster being the worse of the two. To me... everything tasted just like the stoves smell. I would be willing to try again with either on a propane stove.

Your box would make a cool shelf piece... I have a spot for it if you choose to get rid of it.

So... I did try just a quarter turn and it sounded good. I tied a set of mantels on and lit it up. After the new mantels cleaned up I just let it run to warm up. I could actually hear a drip fall and boil. I give it a bit more throttle and it was Freddy Flame Out. Something is wrong... I suspect the upper "vapor port" is plugged and it is causing a siphoning effect. I mean... not much else it could be.

Gonna require further surgery.

Check for obstructions in the air tubes. Common for bugs to build nests or go there and die. Makes for dramatic yellow flame.

Found these laying in the bottom of the box with new to me 220F from the barn sale. Didn't think much about it... until drinking coffee this morning looking over the torn down cleaned up 220F parts.

Any clues what I have here?

Does @Shran have one?

Hmmm........... CO2 cartridges? Is it a bicycle tire inflator? I had one years ago that took paintball gun CO2 cartridges.

I finally have something cool you don't have... never thought that would happen.

I'm gonna let this soak a bit and see if anyone else wants to take a stab at it.

Those are definitely CO2 cartridges. I've never had that style of inflator but shran could be correct.

It doesn't replace the hand pump... other then function. It actually replaces the fuel cap.

I'm never going to use it... but a neat piece of history that I had never seen before.

I will probably display my cleaned up 220F with it on.

Ah that makes sense. My dad mentioned they used to have them a long time ago and I guessed its purpose based on the context with coleman fuel appliances. But I'd never seen one before, much less used. I just assumed it went where the pump goes but the filler cap makes more sense.

Pick'in's must be slim this time of year... all I found up until today was a couple junk stoves.

I don't normally buy Coleman coolers. They seem to be the exception to well designed, functional, long lasting stoves & lanterns... their coolers are just total crap. I've had a couple of the green ones from the 70's - the plastic bottoms crack, somehow they fill up full of water, and fall apart.

However, this was an exception. Not much information out there about these but I'm guessing since the diamond pattern on it kinda matches my aluminum stove, it was probably made in the very early 60's. It does NOT have the shitty plastic bottom like the newer ones either, all metal! Other than the cracked plastic inside the lid, it's in super good shape! I think I'm gonna try to reconstruct the lid plastic somehow. Maybe I can make a fiberglass mold or something? Fill it full of spray foam and caulk over it? Not sure yet. I only spent 5 bucks on it and it obviously needs some sort of repair so I won't be out much regardless.

I’ve always been a fan of Coleman steel belted coolers. With a cooler that old, I’m not sure if replacement parts would be available or not but might be worth a look.
