So I have a 99 ford Ranger with a 5.0 v8 from a 99 mountaineer. (I bought it this way)
I am wanting to add a cold air intake, but I am having trouble finding a direct swap kit online. See, I used to have a 3.0v6 Ranger a few years ago and I put a cold air intake from K&N on it. It was a direct bolt on and I saw noticeable performance improvements. I am just looking for the same thing now with my V8

Didn't the mountaineer come with a cold air intake from the factory?

Ford typically had a sort of cold air intake on these front the factory. A piece of tube that connected the airbox to a spot behind the passenger headlight.

Most aftermarket “CAI” intakes that I’ve seen don’t draw air from outside the vehicle into a sealed box so they are more warm air intakes.

Headers and an electric fan will do more to free up some power over an aftermarket intake on these.
