I was saying you cant peak a 4 watt radio, its not worth the money. And now that you mention it, they did have the little black box looking thing on the back, about 3 inchesx 3 inches. I just figured this was part of the bigger radio, They didnt have the big ol personal computer sized amps like the hunting clubs use.

The numbers are black, the background is orange. This radio was bought last christmas.

I have one that sounds a lot like it. Got it for like $30-40 at Wal-Mart. For what I needed it for at the time it worked great, listening to trucker chatter going thru Omaha about road conditions. Oddly, now that I have moved back to the sticks I never even turn it on anymore...

The one that only has the volume, squelch, and channel knobs? thats it. the one that is $10 more has an RF gain knob on top of the squelch knob.

I just finished a drive from Texas to California with it and a 4 foot fiberglass antenna from frys. worked all right but the range was not great.

Yeah, mine only has three knobs.

Range isn't great on mine either, but it was good enough to hear what was going on ahead of me, maybe a mile tops. I was tickled with it for what I needed.

same here... got reports on cops, checkpoints, and traffic... all I needed.
