sorry if i didnt post this in the right section still learning the forums but my 88 ranger that i got someone cut all the wires to the clutch engage switch and i was wondering how to bypass the switch correctly and this may be a dumb question is there a neutral saftey switch on a 5 speed tranny

There is a neutral SENSING switch on the right (passenger) side top of the Mazda manual trans. It was designed to tell the computer when the truck is in neutral, but I wired my interlock wires through it and have not had any problems I can see yet.

I would reconnect the cut wires as your best option if that is possible.

Manuals don't use a neutral safety switch like an auto does. The primary switch (besides the reverse switch mentioned above) is the clutch switch positioned behind the pedal in the cab. Should be fairly simple to bypass if no other options exist, but I'd recommend you obtain a Haynes (or similar) manual with wiring diagrams to see which wires will need to be spliced together. One set should control ignition. The other should be for cruise (dis)engagement if applicable. Once bypassed, however, you will be putting yourself at risk since you can now start the engine regardless of what gear the transmission is in or whether the clutch is engaged or not. The switch on my 92 failed (without me knowing initially). I got into the habit of just turning the key to start the engine when working on it and almost got run over...several times even... =)
