progress at last
All my parts came in today. I'd like to recommend the company "Southwest Gear" as they ship fast and had the cheapest prices by far. I purchased a mainshaft/ouput shaft, input shaft and counter shaft combo, and their "ultimate" rebuild kit for the m5r1. Came with all soft parts for a complete rebuild... only thing missing were the giant nuts in the tail section. They have them available for sale though. I did go ahead and buy them. I was especially happy to see they include the 3 freeze plugs for the shifter housing. Much better then silicone
$373 total, shipped to my door! 30lbs too! I realize this looks like spam but I assure you I have no ties to them. I would be on here ripping them if they did me wrong.
Anyways, enough plugging them. I've begun the rebuild process and I have to say once you get past the first few hiccups its not too bad. I've managed to completely tear down the old trans parts without any special tools, just my 20 ton press(~$250 at Harbor Freight). I pressed apart one of the old bearings and used the center section to press in the new ones. I've used this technique before with wheel bearings. I'm starting to develop a nice assortment of cone shaped pieces of hardened steel
. Anyways, I've taken a few pictures and I will try to host them up so everyone has a nice ref for a rebuild. The method I used with the old bearing section takes the place of about 3 special tools so it may help others.
I'm still worried about the clutch disc hitting the slave cylinder problem... I guess I'm just going to go ahead and hope the problems in the trans contributed to the issue.
anyways, thanks again for all the help. I start a new thread with the trans pics as this thread is getting a bit off topic.
