clutch pedal sticking

So my manual ranger is shifting OK (syncros maybe a little worn), and the clutch isn't slipping, the clutch fluid is to the top but probably due for a change...
When I lift my foot, it takes a second for the pedal to pop up from the floor.

I read elsewhere I may just need to grease the linkage, which I tried but there is a clutch/ignition lockout switch blocking the area that would tend to need greasing.

Is this a worn master cylinder, or could it be something wrong on the clutch/slave cylinder end.

Does the top of the rod just pry off the joint on the pedal?
What actually holds the master cylinder in place?

The pedal pushrod itself is plastic and held to the pedal by a four pronged plastic clip

I doubt it's a "binding linkage" because there's really nothing to bind.

My bet is a bad master cylinder.

If this is on the 2000 in you avatar the master cylinder twistlocks into a square hole in the pedal bracket there is a gromet to seal the hole where it passes through the firewall.

Thanks for the info Allan. Everyone I spoke too said there was no way it could possibly be the master cylinder. From the number of posts in this forum, it sounds like a pretty rare problem. But I had the same hunch.

I just finished changing out the MC tonight and the truck drives fine.
The only real hitch was that the new reservoir did not fit in the space allotted by Ford. I had to fish it back through all the wiring, pull it off, put the old one back on, and re-bench bleed. Next time I will check the new parts more carefully.

I took some notes and pictures of my experience that may help others who have to o the same work. I will try to post those when I get time.
