1996 Ranger Splash 4.0 has a clutch problem. i recently took out the transmission and motor. I put it back in with a new clutch and now my clutch peddle is hard to press. Could it be binding in the motor or could it be the clutch plate needs adjustment or not getting enough hydrolic fluid?

Well it´s been raining here for the past few days, so I´m not really sure if it is or not. The last time I was under the truck it looked like it could be. I´ll check it out tomorrow for sure. Cam you think of anything else I should check?
I´ll let you know if it is or is not kinked. It has a clip that goes in this slot to help hold the end of the line when you put the hydrolic line end in the transmission but i can´t seem to get it out or tell if it is still in there.

oh and does my clutch plate need to be adjusted since I put a new clutch in it?

Hydraulic clutches self adjust, unless you have some adjustment in the pedal rod area going to the master cylinder for the clutch.

ok. The hydraulic line isn´t kinked. I dropped the transmission again and I´m about to put it back in and hope for the best. I´ll keep you posted. Oh, now i seem to have trouble getting the tranny to line up and meet the top of the motor. I´ve got the bottom bolts in but it doesn´t line up at the top. any suggestions? Note I´m having to do this by myself with a tranny jack.

Go to the store with one of the top bolts in hand, and get some longer bolts with the same thread. Put the longer bolts in the bottom to support the transmission, but let it slide back so you can try stabbing it in again without having to lift it at the same time.

For the clutch, it sounds like you didn't have the line properly connected to the slave cylinder. The little valve n the fitting didn't open. So, no place for fluid to move when you pushed the pedal.
