I have a '94 Splach that I am trying to get wired with a new Clarion unit. I looked up the wiring diagram in my shop manual for the radio and assumed I wired it correctly. Wrong. Everything worked fine until I turned on my headlights and then the fuse for the dash blew. So I have something wired incorrectly and I was hoping some one could help me. Here's what the Clarion diagram lists:
Orange/white - Illumination lead
Yellow - Memory back-up lead
Red - Power lead

The shop manual shows that I have:
Light Green/Yellow - Battery
Black/Pink - Ignition

I am stumped on what I am doing wrong here. Any help would be awesome.

On my '85 there was a dimmer wire for the stock radio, I made the mistake of trying to use it for a ground and it blew the fuse everytime I turned the lights on but worked fine otherwise.

For a newer vehicle a plug in harness is by far and away the way to go. $5 will save you a lot of grief.

hey on the clarion if it dose not have a dimer selection on the deck the you do not use the illumination wire. I sell Clarion and i hardly ever hook up the illumination wire. I have a DXZ785USB in my truck and the illumination wire is not hooked up. I would unhook the illumination and replace the fuse.
