Does anyone know if this stuff is worth buying or using?

I asked about this once some years ago about a Duplicolor product that has a rather realistic chrome-looking cap on the spray can, although it looks like the post isn't here anymore.

The consensus was that nothing looked even close to chrome unless you spent a ton of $$$ on a product that was like $80 a qt (I don't recall the name of it). ANything else was like an aluminumized silver.

If you want the look of chrome, then electroplating is really the only way to do it (real chrome).

yeah i made the mistake of using it in the trim around my grill because it was old and the plastic underneath was spotting up. It looks ok from a distance but not up close. I can get some pics later with a comparison from painted and not cause i cant figure out how to get the trim off from around the lights.

theres a reason they call it "mexi-chrome" :icon_thumby:

(no offense to anyone of mexican haritage of coarse).

yeah that "chrome" is more of a bright silver. you can never "paint" on chrome but the closest chrome paint you can buy is at www.eastwoodco.com

Does crome in a can only add 2.5 H.P. instead of the 5 H.P. that real crome adds?

no, an even 3hp.

what if you have chrome tow hooks...then you use them to tow your busted rig home? :D

I'd rattle can 'em flat black first:thefinger:

I'm just playin anyway, I love admiring my beautiful features in my shiny chrome bumpers:icon_twisted:

Had an 07 f150 come into the dealership one day that had the tow hooks, shocks, and hitch all wrapped in 'chrome' tape. :shok:

If it wasn't for my chrome valve covers the truck wouldn't even run (plus they were $25 for the pair and OE were $40 a piece). The tires wouldn't hold air either if it wasn't for the crome valve stem covers. Crome paint won't hold air in the tires.
