Chevy Reliability

It's not so much reliability as Maintenance cost. If you compare a '75 chevy truck to a '98 f150. Then sure the Chevy would be "better"(of course that depends on how you look at it).
If you compare any year Ranger to any Chevy built after '88 then you begin to understand. Even if the Ranger breaks down more often (which it won't) it will still cost you a considerable amount less in maintenance costs.
Now if you had a Honda, WOW we don't want to go there!

On the other hand, Chevy lovers are arrogant pricks that deserve a little bashing. Right Will?

I suppose anyone that loves their car enough to sodomize it at 3am when nobody is around deserves a little bashing.

I've said many times that all mechanical objects are shit. What you choose as a means of transpo and of hauling your stuff with should be based on practical consideration in my opinion. I'm driving what I found to be most practical.

That said, when I started my truck this morning the starter kept running and the engine didn't start. I was running around trying to figure out how to get the battery cables off of it--there are many. It ran on and on and was filling the sky with white smoke and it still didn't start and I didn't figure out what size wrnech fits on the side terminals--which is different than the top terminals and I have stuff on both sets. Then the engine coughed and that shook the starter problem loose and it went quiet. I got a new solenoid for $28, and figured out a plan for cutting it next time. I also had to replace my waterpump a few months ago--which was the week before I had to haul my bobcat and hoe down to Kentucky. I guess it was October. And my fuel selector switch popped out of the dashboard a couple days ago. And my driver's-side mirror is getting loose and I have to roll down the window and push it out everytime I close the door.

I think that's the end of my confession. But I need a full-size crewcab pickup daily, and I get 17mpg in town so what's a girl to do. It's easy to fix, has a steel headliner and vinyl seats and rubber mats so the kids can't screw it up. I drive it all over the midwest and east coast pulling stuff so it's not unreliable. Drive it 50 miles a day every day. And I have 2 extra engines, 3 extra trannies and a slew of body parts and other engine parts. After I wear all of that stuff out I may get rid of it. If I live long enough.

O.K, but it was all a bold statement (not yours) I think anything after 88 just got crappier. Who needs ride height sensors? I have spent two hours on my chevy and possible 1 week (24x7=168) of completely working on it. As you can see I have spent way to much time ACTUALLY doing physical work. I personally would never go with any american made car. Look at the taurus, celebrity, lumina, sable, fiesta....and the list goes on.

I had a Taurus that was "bulletproof" I almost cried the day I sold it (to many kids). I still have the spare trans, I told the guy he would need it some day.
We also had a 6000 ste, what a nightmare, My wife loved it. Some people are just sick!

My friends new silverado 2500hd-had it for a couple months now

power mirrors, stopped working(not fuse),
pulley bearing fried,
3 headlights have gone out,
interior lights wouldnt turn off,
HUGE clunk every time it starts,
and best of all got its ass kicked by my ranger in a race (0-150kph where I hit my speed limiter.)

the problems are endless with that thing

Haha. Yes, he will. I had a '93 that lost a tranny, strong motor, 220K.

I just bought a '93 Tempo 2.3L for $150 w/ X24K that runs good, shifts good, no rust holes (dented), but the power steering pump and starter are going bad. I drive it to work everyday (for 3 weeks now), it's like a go cart. Some of those little cars won't die.

All of the "bad" vehicles from the '70s/'80s are already broken.

No point of arguing on a Ford Forum. I might as well argue with the tree huggers.

exactly.

See my avatar.

Some folks can't stand Fords, some can't stand Chevrolet ... etc...etc...

And some don't really care. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. And we all know what opinions are like, so why argue. Okay, it is fun to argue.

I totalled the Blazer yesterday and i'm looking at a Dakota that my Grandad has for sale. I'll be away until the second of January and i'll post pics of it then. So you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

If I done pissed anyone off by saying the "C" word, go piss up a rope.

Keep it safe all.

You finally understand.

Would you seriously expect anything less in a Ford forum? You're not going to find a majority of people singing praise about a Chevy, just like on a Chevy forum you're not going to find people praising Fords. Everyone has a different experience.

I personally can't stand GM products; every one I've driven has been a bigger piece of crap than the one before. I think the S10 is a POS; I never understood why they riveted the upper ball joints on. Bolts not good enough?

S-10's are POS's....every chevy, or dodge i've worked on has left me liking my Ranger even more. :D My.02

I think all balljoints I've seen on SLA's were riveted. If they have bolts, they have been changed once.

Ranger's and F150 ball joints aren't. Neither are Toyota's or Honda's. I only pull out the grinder when I get a Chevy or GMC pickup in; I've never had to grind rivets out on any other vehicle.

90% of Ford vehicles sold in the last twenty years are still on the road.

The other 10% made it back to the house.

I've had all kinds of problems on my Ranger, but it's a pretty simple truck and not too hard or expensive to work on. Chevies, OTOH, piss me off to no end. Especially the newer stuff. But that said, I got to see one of the new Ford SUPERDUTY pig things up close. Hope I never have to even do an oil change on one. Ford must have hired some engineers from Chevy.

O.K, my friend had a 2003 silverado. 2500, 6.0, 150k miles, auto, very abused, not a problem. Proves nothing.

proves nothing? I dont need to prove anything, I'm just saying what his problems were with his chevy and of course there are chevy's with problems and some without, same goes with all auto manufacturers.

your comment proves nothing...

i used to get into the chevy vs. ford arguements until i worked at a garage for a while and i came to the conclusion that every car and truck on the road is a piece of shit, they ALL break down, every one will blow a transmission, each one could be a lemon and be nothing but problems, eventually every one will be junked and turned into something else, so now when i go look at vehicles for sale i look at how the owner took care of it, not what brand, im just loyal to ford because i think they have better style......and better engineering an some of their vehicles......
+1
I used to be a die hard Ford man, now i feel the way you do, but i cannot change now because all my parts are Ford parts and all my experience is with Fords. The reason I liked Ford's are because they had great axles, but now only the Super duties have great axles and the rest is all IFS CRAP. The only new truck i want is a 79 F150 and the only new SUV I want is a 77 or 78-79 Bronco. But can you buy one? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Why because they dont have antilock brakes, air bags, tire pressure monitoring system, RSC, traction control, or digital bla bla bla. All of which makes driving boring and the mechanic scratching his head while he's sucking your wallet dry. I'm all for EFI but anything else that needs a computer I'm against.Sorry I had to rant. RB

Neither did your post or this one...so what.

Well why are you trying to tell me my original post proves nothing? I'm stating facts that you can not argue with, non of these posts "prove" anything and certainly non of mine ever were trying to "prove" anything. You just seem like the arguementative kind, but so am I :3gears:
