Chevy door handles

Only a matter of time before I get a new truck. This thing is about to roll 128k

holy crap.. i should have had 3 trucks by now by your rules :icon_rofl:

I'm starting to wonder if their door handles coming off in your hand when you try to open the door is a common problem.

The tailgate handle just came off my company truck this week which officially makes it a problem with every GM truck I've had to work out of for more than a month.

I'm kinda thinking I just suck at opening doors, but I figured I'd ask if any of you guys have had this problem too.

I tried to open the sticky passenger door of a co-workers S-10 and the exterior handle broke off in my hand. A couple of weeks later he got t-boned and the truck was totaled.

i don't wanna talk about that -few censored choice words- s10

S10s are not worth their weight in used toilet paper...... Barely worth their weight in scrap.

What about the plastic handles on the rangers? My tailgate handle snapped right off one day and now I'm waiting for the doors to do the same. Like one of the posts above, I have the cover off of the tailgate to reach in and pull the rods to open. It's not just GM.

my b2 has metal handles... so... idk lol.
the ex's are plastic but still good..

Our trucks don't make money if they're off the road. A new truck costs less than the downtime from a broken one.

yeah i understand. but that aint no miles on a truck. we had a 88 chevy scottsdale with a 350 that had 600,000 miles and the motor was never pulled from the truck.. no major work. that guy is still driving that we sold it to..

thats the only handle ur gonna break on a Ranger.
my moms 03 had a plastic one too, and it went . i got a 93-00 metal hanlde. it looks a bit smaller. but it fits perfectly. and u wont break that one too easy. :icon_thumby:

the door handles wont break even if the truck is t-boned and the door is stuck(mine was. thats why i know)

I'd need some documentation to even think about believing that. That goes for any gas engine. No brand loyalty nonsense here.

edited.. b/c it wasn't worth it lol. thread hijack.. and all
if we still had the truck, i wouldn't even go get documents b/c people would say i'm "frame biasing" it..
i'm not gonna lie to make a chevy sound better than it was. i don't like chevys. end of story. lol.

600,000 is pretty steep. I did see a Tacoma with the original engine hit over 800k before. (There's pics for proof if anybody feels like searching through customtacos.com) so I suppose it's definitely possible.

However this particular Chevy is almost at the point of no return.

Current mileage is 1308XX

Current list of things to fix:

Windshield washer sprayer doesn't work.

Tailgate handle broken

ABS somehow broke today in the snow storm. At least this time it's just stopped working, instead of activating every time I try to come to a complete stop.

aaaand last Friday my low oil pressure warning came on. Turns out the truck was 2.5 quarts low on oil. Must be a decent sized leak somewhere.

The Transmission takes about 6-7 seconds to switch from D to R, which doesn't seem like a lot of time until you're sitting sideways on a road trying to back into a customer's driveway, hoping your truck will go into gear before a car comes.

Not quite sure what the cause of that one is.

I've said this many times, and I'll say it again.

I didn't hate Chevy until I had to drive one every day.

None of my GM's have had that problem, my 94 1ton even has the plastic handles and they're still going strong. Tailgate handle still functional too.
