I'd like to know why the smart remarks on the Confederate trenchcoat... in case anyone wasn't aware, the Civil War (contrary to popular belief) was NOT over slavery. It was over the desire to wipe out Southern culture. Slavery was just the hot-button issue used as cover.

Of course, if this "master mechanic" was a blatent racist, then yea, he deserves a good beating.

Nah, you guys got it all wrong. That's part of his snorkel system so his Escort can ford deep rivers without water getting into the exhaust. If the picture were taken of the entire car, you would be able to see the intake coming out of his rear window.
