2001 Ranger Edge:

The Check Gage light comes on mostly when first started in the mornings.

The Oil Pressure Gage stays "off" then after a couple of minutes pops to the normal.

Proplem or fix?

I have always run Moble 5-30 Synthetic.

Morning temperatures are not below 30 degrees.

Thank you.

Could be an oil pressure sender going for a dump.

Hmm, I thought that light was just for low fuel. That is the only time I've ever seen one lit in a ranger or explorer.

Location location location

Where on the engine is the oil pressure sending unit?

Thank you.

On my '98 Ranger the "check gauge" light comes on with low fuel, high temperature and low oil pressure. I don't know if it also comes on with low battery, but, I would assume so.

+1 The oil pressure sending unit should be in the front of the motor, drivers side and low on the block, approx. 1-2" above the oil pan.

If its not that, it could be the camshaft synchronizer.

Yeh its the same on my 97.

It's the sending unit. My truck does the same thing. I put all mechanical guages on mine.

mine did it too, the check gage light came on, and the oil pressure gauge would flap violently back and forth, changed the sending unit, it fixed it for 2 days, it started flapping again, but this time it went below the pin that holds the needle when the truck is off..havent fixed it since. oh well LOL
