Does anyone know what year they started putting check engine lights on the Rangers? Mine is a 87 with the 2.3 four cylinder and It doesn't have one.

I'm not sure but my 88 B2 had 1

The CEL started at least as early as the OBDI specs. Definitely in use as of the 94 model and probably earlier by a few years.

I would guess the first production year that each motor series got computer control. Might not be the same year for all engines or models.

1996 and up has the OBD2 stuff.

I believe it was in 1988. My 87 does not have a CEL.

Yeah I did a little research and It was 1988 when they started putting them in.

I could swear my 87 BII had one......hmmmm

Maybe they used them on the V6's and not on the four cylinders?
