Can anyone tell me what faults would cause the check engine light (CEL) to blink and then quit after a minute or two?
I have a 95 Ranger 3L, 4 wheel drive, manual with OD. 120,??? miles.
I was on the interstate, 50 mph+/-, in a wet snow storm, and the engine acted as though it was struggling. I increased throttle, and it slowly started to speed up. I suspected carb ice, but with no carb, didn't know what to think.
The CEL started blinking, so I slowed down, and it quit blinking after a moment or two. After a few minutes, I tried speeding up again, and the same thing happened again.
Since then, after the weather got colder and dryer, it hasn't re-occured under the same driving circumstances.
Anyone know or guess what would cause that effect?

Thanks, CZ

scan the codes....

A flashing CEL is the PCM telling you that your engine is misfiring enough to cause damage to emissions equipment (your cats)

Pull the codes and check...other than that, moisture problem? Wires, dist. cap, etc...take a look at them.

Thanks for the thoughts.
As wet as it was that night, I'm guessing that the high tension side of the ignition is getting leaky.
I'll try the spray bottle at night trick and see if there is anything obvious.
And thanks, Sasquatch_Ryda, that was the answer that I was looking for. Is that the only reason that the CEL would blink, or are there other reason/s?
