Sound advice from my experience. My 92 had a high-pressure discharge valve on the rear of the compressor. To the best of my knowledge, the valve is designed to "relieve" the system when the pressure reaches or passes approximately 450 psi. By that time the system would be greatly overcharged and is probably more likely to blow a line. Best to either use a "healthy" set of manifold gauges or pay someone to fix it. I've had lines blow apart because the spring lock wasn't properly seated. Even at moderate pressure it was not a pleasant experience. Just my humble opinion of course.
