Mostly I think it was a matter that the Eff One Fiddy is a huge moneymaker and they’d rather people bought those. Realistically they don’t cost much more and the mpg is similar to a 4.0 Ranger. In my case I don’t really need a big truck and at my house there really isn’t anywhere to park one.

I considered an F150 before buying my 2011 Ranger but I just couldn't deal with the shoulder high pickup box sides.

The F-150 is usually more truck than I need. I've been able to do everything I want with the Rangers without the cost and size.

Similarly equipped... they indeed cost much more. A SuperCab F-150 starts at $33,375. A SuperCab Ranger starts at $25,070

I agree though about not needing a full size, and the space they require.

You won't like the new Rangers then. My 60 year-old knees don't like climbing up on the tailgate. I grab the bedside and step on the tire.
My bud who owns the brewery has an F-250 4x4. First time I helped him with something I was like, "Dafuq I get up there?"
I'm 6'1" and the tailgate is even with my chest.

I end up doing a kind of a roll on to the tailgate. I find it to be the easiest, most efficient way to do it.

I have a friend that works at a ford plant and he has told me that it costs as much to make a focus as it does a F150. So that's why they can offer 10000 off one and still make a huge profit.

The Ranger was given the cold shoulder by management, and finally given an overdose in '11, to avoid a new model 'stealing' F-150 sales.
So, to fix that, they brought back the Ranger after an 8 year vacay, and have now added ANOTHER truck(let) to compete with the cash-cow F-150.
Hmm. I thought dropping the Ranger, and the 60k+ annual sales back then was a mistake, and the above seems to prove that to be the case.
I am ordering a new Maverick, and I haven't had a new vehicle in decades, nothing there I wanted.
Maybe they have awakened in Dearborn. At least the office furniture executive running the show of late has departed, though I don't know who took the top spot.

Awhile back i was curious as to how much profit manufacturers make off of the average vehicle..

Whatever website it was told me ford makes around 10k per f150 sold. The german luxury brands make about the same. Ferrari though.. they make 80k+ in profit per vehicle.

In 1957 Ford introduced the Ranchero because trucks at the time were too crude for many people who still wanted a truck bed, then in 59 the Chevy El Camino showed up, 2 years later trying to rip off Ford's idea(also see Mustang vs Camaro). Maybe the new Maverick is for people who want a truck bed but don't want to use a step ladder to get in? A Honda Ridgeline would do most of the stuff I use my truck for but I have hairy legs and refuse to shave them so I can't drive one.

I don't think Ford sees the Maverick as competition for the F-150 or cannibalizing sales. It's more for urban folks who want a small truck but for whom an Eff One Fiddy is too big and difficult to park in urban areas. They're looking at new buyers who would not have bought a Ford.
Month ago I was in a hospital parking garage in the city in my stock height Ranger and it cleared the ceiling by less than 2 inches and I had to take the radio antenna off.

Parking spaces have definitely gotten smaller...back in the days my old man's f350 dually fit right in the mall parking structure. Now my F150 struggles to park at a 7-11
