Also not all chains are created equal. I might put cable chains on the front but my v-bar chains not a chance. There are too many things going on in the front end, tie rod ends, ball joints, u-joints. Heavy duty chains put a lot of stress on things.
I have bar reinforced chains for BOTH ends of my truck
but I also have a set of cables for the front end.
I also pull the wheels to put the chains on because I'm one of those nasty SOB's that likes doubling up on the rubber chain tensioners
and prefer one set on the INSIDE of the wheels
A local cop once commented that chains weren't legal on the state highways.
I replied "if it's bad enough out that chains are NEEDED, good f'ing luck
catching me to tell me that" he laughed at the truth of that...
Then I went on and told him if you do catch up and pull me over
and give me a ticket, you are f'ing crazy if you think I'm gonna pull you back onto the road afterwards.
That all being said, I would never put real chains on JUST the front because Rangers are tail happy enough in the snow that it would be nearly impossible to stop nose forward.
