Catalytic Converter Removal???

IBTLIndie.gif

I got a '98 Ford Ranger, 4.0ltr V6 I have done a bunch of mods on it, and finally got down to the sound of it. I bought a Flow-master 40 the aggressive blah blah blah blah blah....

Had 'er in and well... no sound?!?! I thought this was supposed to be the loudest SOB out there, so I took a closer look at my exhaust turns out I got 2 Catalytic converters one in front of the other, with a O2 sensor out of there...

Now I'm wondering if ditching the CAT/S will help with the sound at all and what are the negatives to doing it??

Can anyone help me out??

Thanks-

Hooper

So to help you out. First and last, the cat is needed. But here is my thoughts, trying replacing the cat with a hi-flow cat. Its what I had to do to a 76' Nova 305 when I replaced the exhuast. Except I installed a true dual flow master 40 and dual hi-flow cats (1x per exhuast pipe). Kept me legal to drive it and gave it a better sound.

the flow 40 is not the loudest muffler of that style by far. try a vforce if you can find them around you. its a smaller company, but they are SO much louder and imo much better sounding than flows. but i'm a flow hater so somebody else chime in lol... ps, i run a thrush welded on my 2.9 and am very happy with the sound, esp after hearing my buddy's ranger with the same setup but with a flow40. yes his was louder, but it also sounded like a damn honda.

No no no....

haha! I'm not looking to have a sound of a Turbo Diesel, just a little rumble to cut out the power steering whine. ha.

As for the video, (and thanks for posting that) I do not even get that, it sounds as if I didn't even swap it??

I didn't mean to offend anyone about the topic, just a question I had from me and my buddies.

Anywhoo! Thanks for the replies gentleman, and ladies.

All the Best,

Hooper

You do have quite the way with words!

Well I did almost major in English. I did take a minor in being unpersonable.

:icon_rofl: now....now, ads...do you need some of my meds....I remember years ago when you convinced me that removing my cat was a bad thing

Couldn't have been me. You had the V-8 before I signed up.

That actually isn't hard to do. Just move all your plug wires one spot to the left.

just a little rumble to cut out the power steering whine. ha.

Have you tried filling the fluid?

The fluid is fine, I flushed it about a month ago.
