Cat

Don't get me wrong a male cat is NOT the most efficient killer
but a male cat when aquired at the correct age will strongly
imprint on ONE person (and could care less about the rest of
the human population)

One lap, one pillow, one hand that works the can opener.

Yeah an unaltered male will wander... I've always taken an attitude
that if doesn't show up for a couple days it's that many days where
I don't have to feed him.

He was obviously out doing inportant cat things.
I've always wanted a gps tracker on a wandering
tomcat to see where he goes... but I can live without knowing...

But the real four legged angel of death is an unaltered female.
Forty years ago I had a female tiger that could show up with a bird
on a dreary grey day where nothing was moving... you'd take it away
from her, and not more than five minutes she'd have another... with
an "I can play this game all day long... and I rather enjoy it..." attitude...

The thing is a female cat defines "aloof" and disinterested.
she is a real "what have you done for me lately"

I've always found that male cats were more personable.... atleast
with their chosen person.

The thing to remember about cats is the bulk of their programming
is hardware and "firmware", there's actually only about 20% of a cat's
programming that's "user programmable" and that is largely like PROM
and they self program from birth so if you don't get them before
they filled their software memory by themselves the only thing
you can do with the cat involves a wok and a chinese cookbook.

You get no chance to write it again, if you write something
wrong you get to live with it.

I consider myself something of an artist with cat programming.

I think there's a good bit of truth here... and I think a good portion of the ROM for our previous cat was filled via our dog :icon_confused:

Our cat (male) never lined up his kills on the doorstep. But when he'd kill a mouse, he'd spend some time playing with it, throwing it up in the air and pouncing on it and so forth. Then he'd leave it lay and go find another. I've heard people say that cats pile up their dead on the doorstep or try to bring them in the house because they're trying to show their owners that this is how you do it. If that's true, our cat found out pretty quick that we don't need to be taught, we brought home some HUGE mice.:icon_twisted: (We got the cat last fall and then when deer season came around, we brought home four.):icon_hornsup:

I have 8 cats, and 2, 12 week old St. Bernard/Newfoundland mixes. (Yes, I live on a farm) All the cats except for one are about 5 months old...The one that is the oldest is about 3 years old. He has got to be one of the toughest summab!tch that I have ever seen. I swear that he is a black panther. He weighs about 15 pounds and is nothing but pure muscle....He is all black and looks like a Bull Mastiff in feline form.

when I think of rodent collection I think of Gracie trying to eat all the neighborhood cats. just a different prospective

Lets see this "panther"

Yup Ill learn from A.D. momma, getting a mean cat. Tired of mice an buying poison. It, cheep fun to watch cat play w/ mouse to DEATH. My old cat would not come inside. finally never came home about 3 yrs ago. I think he,s dead Dont know. Dont care

Cats far more than dogs are killers.

But they need to be shown what to kill
so a good pellet gun and some marksmanship skill...

you see cats learn what you kill by being shown by their mothers
(and occasionally their fathers) what constitutes "prey"

BTW, my mentioning kitten's fathers....
it is only partly myth that tomcats will kill kittens

what tomcats kill is the kittens of OTHER tomcats.

Seems cats can identify by smell their own offsping
and kill all others.

While I had my last tomcat several momma cats passed
through with their litters, and weren't even slightly bothered
by the presence of my cat who I observed on several occasions
pinning and "bathing" kittens.
as well as bringing a selection of "not quite dead" prey animals back
to educate the kittens on target identification.

IT was obvious to me that momma was completely feral and came
to my house to remain under the protection of the kitten's dominant
male father.

Why do I say Dominant male? because if he wasn't he woundn't have been
the daddy to ALL of the kittens (six in all cases) and there would not
have been six of them, most who looked like him.

Male cats KNOW

So when my cat would disappear during the spring and summer
I would assume he was either guarding his mate against other males
during breeding season OR was guarding his offspring from them.

I've observed this behavior with male domestic cats several times

anyway I still need a male kitten to "weaponize" for my purposes.

I love cats. They are so cool!! We had 7 at one time (all indoor). We are down to three now and my oldest one is going on 19 years.. He is a great old man!!! Still playfull as hell.

I know an aquaintance who is a firm believer that letting cats outside is cruelty.

Frankly I think confining a cat is...

I tend to let cats be what they are, if the cat wants out and is
really determined you aren't going to stop it.

As for them killing songbirds and other small woodland creatures..

Let me use this as an example...

One morning on my way out the door many years ago I observed
my cat at the time sitting very proudly in a Sphinx position over his latest toy.

I said outloud "That's an interesting bird" my mother asked "what kind of bird?"
I replied, "I'm not sure I should say"
She: "You mean you don't know?"
I: "No, the name just seems so inappropriate considering the situation"
She: "Ok, out with it"
I: "The species is common name in English is "Swift", which OBVIOUSLY
this one wasn't... or we wouldn't be discussing it" :)

Cats kill the slow, stupid and unlucky.

Cats merely present a "Darwin Award" to deserving receipients.

Never really been a fan of cats. I prefer dogs since you can interact with them a lot more. The one thing I do like about cats though is that they are some badass hunters.

Found a cat. bastard bit my pant,s leg an ran off . Told farmer round him up I,ll take,m . We need a barn cat. Mice an what knows in chicken food an other stuff. My damm dog died he did great. Im a trucker @ my GF couldent handle him. A cat ? Cant take him in the truck !! Drivers do though ?

IF you ever want a traveling cat Siamese seem to do very well...

As do "tuxedo" cats.

You can pretty reliably tell a cat's general personality from it's coloring.

The wildest are always the narrow stripe grey tigers, closely followed by
the yellow tigers.

Want a loyal (to one person) cat? Get a solid (no stripe grey)
Though the grey-on-grey broad stripe "Tortise shell" toms are close...

Ever see those pics of an all black long haired kitten perched royally
on a pillow? you don't have to pose them to do that, infact you'd
probably have to shoot it to stop it from adopting that royal pose.

I got a cat ya'll can have. belongs to the neighbor, drives me nuts, and makes me not able to breathe. She isn't supposed to have it either, but the new girl at the office told her she could without knowing better, now me and the rest of the allergics who rent space in this building are stuck with it.:annoyed:
