just leave the cats alone. replacing them with "high flow" models isnt going to do anything other then lighten your wallet (your factory cats are already the exact same design as so-called "high flow" ones).

if you want loud, cut off your new muffler and buy a $3 90* to clamp onto the intermediate pipe.

.......disclaimer.... These Are Just My Thoughts.

well i do agree that the high flow ones arent exactly a miracle worker. there is some restiction in a cat. notice how much louder an engine gets when you cut one off. thats because they do mute the sound down to a certain degree. they almost act as a tiny muffler, yes the benefits of having one out weigh not having one because your engine does run better with one, on the newer stuff anyway,

now the design in the highflow cats isnt exactly like the old ones. they are made of different material. so they do do something, there just not worth spending all that money on. the dollar to performance ratio is def. not worth it. so IN MY OPINION, just leave the cats alone. upgrade the size of the pipe, and run the muffler of choice.

now please, i dont want to start a flame war, this is just my own opinion, i am in no way pushing my thoughts, or saying there exactly perfect. so please dont respond saying im wrong unless you have significant info as to wy im wrong. thank you in advance.

There's nothing wrong with any part of what you said.

It would be nice if people searched "cats" before they posted. Then they'd see how everyone here feels about it.

how would i make it louder then? besides headers.. i just got done puting a thrush welded on it and i can sorta hear it but its still quiet

Headers, bigger pipes will give it a deeper sound, go 2 1/4" exhaust or 2 1/2" exhaust and also like mentioned, dump it off to the side just after the cab. If loud is your goal, don't bother with a muffler.

IMOHO a good sounding V6 is a quiet one.

So....... do I need 3 high flow cats?

or is 2 compliant?

Frank

you can get 2.5" in/out universal 3-way catalytic converters for around $40 if you look around ( I found a few on Summit a few months back). Those will take care of everything.

Just because there is no STATEW emissions that has no effect on FEDERAL law.

Besides getting your engine management to be happy without it will prove difficult if not impossible.

Removing your cats will NOT improve your performance.

X2!!!!!!

Modern catalytic converters require very little energy to work, your engine is also so dependent on their functioning correctly I GUARANTEE you will see decreased performance and mileage due to the engine trying to compensate. Not to mention possible engine damage during prolonged use.

Of if they would just read the sticky at the top of the Exhaust forum.

hey i bought my truck and it dont have a cat on it should i get a high flow one? will it make it run better and have more low end power? i got the pipe exiting right before the back tire but up in the fender with it cut in to the fender lol
