Cat location?

My 02 4.0 SOHC engine has 4 cats. One precat in each side of the Y pipe and two main cats in the single pipe after the Y pipe. It is CARB compliant and that could be why it has two main cats. I recently had to replace the complete cat system and it appeared even the non CARB compliant had two main cats. They were just less expensive due to not requiring as much of the expensive rare metals.

Catalytic converters have gone up almost double recently. I had to replace the main cats under warranty and Rock Auto required that I pay for a new one and return the old one to make sure it was a warranty issue. They did refund the money for the cats but I was shocked at how much they had gone up.

KennedyTed,

Look in or on SummitRacing.com, a universal converter is a legal replacement, you can even get the Hi-Flow versions right around $100 each; no problem.

Not in New York... NY and CA are C.A.R.B states.
