CARMAX....anyone?

Have any of you all dealt with Carmax before?

Supposibly they will buy your car from you, even if you don't buy one from them.

I am trying to sell my F-250 and no one seems interested.

I may stop by there with it one night and see if they will give me enough to pay it off.

That's true. Taken from carmax website:

Yes. In fact, you don't even have to trade your car in to CarMax. We'll buy your car even if you don't buy one from us.

Once your car has been appraised, we'll give you a written offer that's good for 7 days. And you are under no obligation to buy one of CarMax's cars once you've sold us yours.

I've never actually dealt with them, but was considering buying a Ranger from them. The truck was at one of their Maryland stores (I live in Connecticut) but I could've had it shipped up here for about $200. I ended up buying a truck from a local dealer, but I brought the ad for the Maryland truck and said "If you don't beat that price, I'll buy this truck instead." The salesman said, "But that truck's all the way in Maryland." I said, "Yea, but look here, it says I can have it shipped here for $200." He didn't know what to say after that, and he finally agreed to match the price.

I called the local dealer who said they would buy it from me, but for only $10-$11K, I owe 14. I need at least that out of it.

they have to make money on it! Thats why trade-ins are usually low. Plus they have their own bodyshops and fix them up before selling, so they can't have too much in it if they want to make money off of it.

I understand that. I am just saying that is one option I have checked into and out of.

They do NOT negotiate. When an 80 year old lady gets the same deal as me, I know I'm getting boned...

Clean trade in is $15,500, clean retail, $18,200.

My wife has dealt with them before. they usually only give you what KBB says its worth.

I felt like punching the guy when he offered me a cool $6,000 for my truck.. I told him if I coud come up with another $7800 I might be able to pay it off!

Any place around you who might put it on consignment for you. I have heard of some places doing that and you can put a reserve price on it and only accept the one that pleases you.
