Good news. Mechanical aptitude, ambition, and willingness to work will always get you ahead if you have patience and stick to it. It's not stubbornness if you refuse to give up, it's persistence and determination. Don't be too hard on the GM guys, they're obviously handicapped( by poor judgement) if they bought one of those things.

Sounds like you’ve got your head in the game and you found a niche in a industry that you can put up with. Good to hear you’re better off now! I highly recommend a second form of retirement. Don’t rely solely on your pension/401k whichever it is. Max that retirement system out and then put more away somewhere else. Whether it’s land or a second house or investments with a stock trading company. Start early and invest everything you can afford to now, because it’s the compounding interest that will help you retire.
