what type and what size after market carb should i get for my 1984 v6 2.8 ford?

most of the articles you read say the best is the Ford 2150 you already have on there. holley can be tough to keep tuned. weber is way over priced for what you get. 2150 provides good stable performance with minimal maintenance. just my $.02

i am still running the stock computer with stock carb and i took all the emisions bull off so i was trying to buy a carb without the emisions, how do i goabout doing this, would i have to change my computer or just buy a new carb without the emisions.

thanks

Dave

With the stock distributor you will never get it to run right without all the emission stuff the computer will not advance the timing properly. If you dont have to pass emissions put in the duraspark ignition. dizzy, module and carb. It cost me $130 for the ignition new at auto zone and I found a motorcraft 2150 carb with the 1.08 venturi If you can find a late 70s pinto or mustang II with the 2.8 all the parts are there including the carb. http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/2_8Duraspark.html here is the link for the conversion any questions just ask.

Here is everything you need for 2.8. It's from the tec library.

If I am not mistaken the carb you have is a mixing carb, but it only adjust via a little hole that opens or closes in regards to how the O2 sensor want to adjust the fuel mixture. If you Dura spark it, which you pretty much have no option now that you removed most of the emissions controls, you can use the same carb, just close the hole at the back side of the top of the carb with a plate to stop it from sucking in air.

You have no choice but to Dura spark it as your computer is not going to work with all the stuff you just pulled off of it. Do some researching before you pull more off of it!

I had a full working EEC-IV on a 2.8 1985 ranger. It took some doing but you can make it all work if you have the time and some extra cash.

If you are in an area where you have to pass emissions, you will have to put it all back on if you want to drive it on the street. Check your local laws.

Mike.
