Carb questions...

I keep seeing people saying 4bbl carb, you don't honestly think you can use a 4bbl on any 4 cyl with success do you? A Holley 350 is a bigger carb than you can ever need for a naturally aspirated 2.3, even a stroked 2.85.

The problem with the efi with a carb adaptor is that there is no water to heat the intake, I tried one on my 88, and it was a miserable, cold natured sob (and it was the middle of summer here in Texas!). Once the engine was plenty warm it still didn't run very good below 3500 rpms (I spent a lot of time trying to dial in the Holley 350 2bbl) so I sold the intake, and adaptor to circle track racer, and it worked really good above 5000+ rpms. I have run across a couple of 2.3's with the very small 390 cfm Holley 4bbl on them, my 2.3 with the Holley 350 cfm 2bbl would leave them in the dust. There is this intake right now on ebay that uses a Carter 1bbl carb on a D-port head http://www.ebay.com/itm/MUSTANG-Intake-Manifold-2-3-Carburetor-FORD-One-BBL-Spacer-81-82-83-84-85-86-CEW-/271309779061?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f2b52b075&vxp=mtr You could find a Carter 1bl to fit, or remove the adaptor, and a Holley 350 2bbl (or a small Motorcraft 2bbl, like the one that came on the 2.8 in a Ranger/Bronco II) that will bolt on with a little 1/2" spacer.

Yes, ^ that is the intake I have on mine now...if you can score that one you'd have a good platform for the Holley 350~ and the Motorcraft 5200 is a direct bolt on as well...

I have the same one from a 79 Mustang, but mine has the factory adaptor for the 5200 still on it with the 5200 carb, but I'm holding on to it, they are hard to find. That one on ebay for $100 is not bad, I'd buy it if I didn't already have one.

Really?! Thats awesome... I think there is one near me... With a carter carb on it... In a truck that has sit for ten plus years... I will check when i get home, i am in ohio right now...

I i were to get that intake, there is a 5200 on ebay for like 30 bucks... Would my current fuel system and/ or throttle linkage work?

yes, because I've been running the same system for about 9 years...hmmm...that just occurred to me...probably needs a good cleaning by now...lol...but I've only actually driven it for about 4 years...mostly trouble free though...except today my alternator bracket broke...again...

Thanks! I will look when i get home... I might be able to buy it for a little bit of nothing... It would be one barrel and desperately in need of cleaning, but it would work until i get a carb... Maybe i could pull the head too if it really did come from a mustang... I would like to buy the whole truck, but i experienced some technical difficulties last time i tried...
