ok, so i open my door today, and apparently i have a factory alarm that i never knew about. and i've owned the truck over a year now. i call around and everyone says to stick the key in the outside door lock and turn it a couple of times. well the guy i bought the ranger from was a car club guy and shaved the door handles. so i have no key hole on the outside. i unplugged the horn to get rid of the noise, but the alarm is still going off and won't allow my truck to start. it's a '95 ranger w/4.0 4x4 if that helps. i am bout to go tow it from papa john's. anybody have any ideas or suggestions for me??

If it's a factory alarm you're kind of SOL. The only means to disarm it in a Ranger are the key in the door and remote transmitter. Short of asking the previous owner if he thought to add a means to cover disarming the alarm when he shaved the handles, somebody with wiring experience could go into the wiring and locate the disarm circuit (sorry, but I won't describe how to do this on the internet). Once you've got the alarm disarmed, you might look into getting a factory transmitter or wiring a hidden switch to disarm the alarm. Another option is to let dealership, well, deal with it, but that's likely to cost a little change. Just be sure this is a factory alarm, otherwise you're looking at completely different options, and good luck with it.

it's happened again

ok well the first time this happened, i yanked some fuses out, let it set for a bit and everything worked fine. well it's happened again. i tried everything i did before, but no start. the only way i have found to start it is to jump the solenoid. i got the alarm to stop goin off, but this is still the only way i can start it. could the sonenoid have gone bad. should i just get a new one and try it? thanks for any help yall can give me.

Do you know where the security alarm module is located? On a 2001 ford ranger the alarm module is located between the passenger airbag module and dash board. The location is very difficult to locate. The alarm is also integrated with your main electrical harness connected to many devices within your truck so you do not want to cut anything. Removing the dash is a pain in the ass but you can remove the security module by unplugging the connector after you get access to the module. The "pick a part" junk yards are good places to practice on before messing with your truck. Another option, probably the easies way, is to purchase a new alarm remote that attaches to your keychain and ask the ford repair advisors to program the remote for you. The price will probably be $80.00 for a ford factory remote. Make sure it’s a factory alarm before buying the remote. Not sure what solenoid you are talking about. And I do not recommend removing fuses as a means of fixing the problem. The last recommendation is cut the source of the sound and bypass the alarm by rewiring your ignition system to your starter. Its not that complicated with all the resources available on the internet.
