Caps ( aka Toppers ) are Freaking INSANE !

I loved my supercabs, never thought Id have a reg cab. I just made my daughter “deal with it” when she got older. when she got her own car she was never in the ranger anymore. Wasnt easy finding a car seat small enough to mount sideways when she was really little but found a used one and never once worried about it. Both my s/c’s were the ones before the “extra door” option existed. I always thought that would be a good idea but when they did come out - wow, it was like a $2,000 option. My next ranger will most likely be a supercab.
My first Ranger was the only vehicle I ever special ordered. Mostly to be less expensive than what the dealer had on the lot. Its purpose was to get me around in snow to NY and be good on gas.
'99 XLT Supercab 4x4 which got me cloth seats, aluminum wheels, and A/C. The standard 3.slow, 5 speed stick. Dark green, tan interior, beautiful truck.
Only options were the 4 door which was optional at the time, AM/FM/CD, tilt wheel and cruise, and limited-slip rear. Good truck except for being underpowered to the point of being unsafe on the highway. I would lease vehicles through my company and I liked it and might have bought it but three months before the lease was up someone ran a stop sign and t-boned me hard. Took it to the dealer's body shop and lo and behold Ford was offering $3000 rebates on Rangers so I leased a new '02 4.0 Off-Road loaded with everything and the kitchen sink and it only cost me $10 more a month than my '99.

So today for the hell of it I called the local Leer dealer to inquire about a camper shell for a long bed Ranger....nope, they no longer make them at all, oldest they go is a 93....too bad they may have got a sale if they still could order them.

Find two caps of the same make and model and graft them together to make a bigger cap.

My longbed topper came off a third gen, 93-97...

Hmm, I didn't know the beds were the same dimensions on the newer models...thank you for the info, broadens my search maybe a little. May have to break down and order a new one for a newer Ranger then if that's the case since they told me the oldest they go is a 93.

Shut up, im busy, go away.

Can you weld fiberglass? Asking for a friend.
Nope. You just glue more fiberglass to it. I know how. But I hate fiberglass. Makes me itch. Plus the chemicals are nasty hazardous.

Well, that ruins my fun. I guess dirtman is still busy.

I bought a cap for my 2006 7' bed a few years ago for $100. I checked ads for months before one appeared.

Yes, new ones are insanely expensive, much like new trucks :D

Wow didn't know they were that much. I bought my 03 Edge Extended cab came with a Swiss Topper on it paint matched to my Oxford white. I think it makes my "Loretta" look better

I'm in the process of building a front and rear lumber racks out of 2 x 1 inch rectangle tubing up the sides and over the top, because I buy quite a bit of long lumber. I'm going to have about a 1 inch gap between it and the topper so I can remove the topper and leave the rack. Plus installing rear back up camera on it and rear and side LED's for night vision.

I'll post it when I'm finished

Or to put in different context : For occasional actual camping , when Caps become the same or more $ than used Pop Ups , that throws a different calculus on things .

used pop-up have became quite affordable. Id get one but thats one more thing to put a plate on, take up space, have lights & tires to maintain- and camping isnt near of a cheap lodging thing that it used to be.
