I have a '90 B2 with a Mazda 5-speed manual tranny. I just got a replacement from the junkyard and it doesn't want to go into 1st or 2nd gear-running or not, clutch in or out. Looking down into the top of the tranny where the stick shift goes in I can use a screwdriver to put it into 3rd, 4th, and push in the 5th and reverse easily - 1st/2nd is not moving. And that is everything I know about trannys, I can't even say what parts these are I'm pushing around. Can anybody tell me what is going on and if there is a way to deal with this without pulling the tranny?

ita sounds to me as though the shift forks are frozen/seized and if that is so then you might want to get another tranny or take that one to a tranny shop to be re-built, so yes u need to pull the tranny...its highly likely!
