can't decide if i want it behind my seats

or in between my two seats (still need to cut off the extra 20% off of my 60 seat) i have the armrest out already, just not the seat part of it.

i have a 12" I am going to run, and I'm not sure it will fit flat in between the seats... i measured and it'd be way too tight i think... cuz the box will have to be 12.25" (or so) wide (interior measurement) plus the thickness of the mdf... i just can't see almost 14" of box in between my seats.. i don't think it will fit. but i really want it to!! then it would kinda function as a show piece/center console, and a sub box...

if anybody knows if I can fit a 12" in between my seats, let me know please.

that's basically the main question behind this thread.

Turn it side ways toward the passenger and get a grill for it? Not the best but it would work.

hm, possibility i guess...

idk, i'm thinking maybe i should just keep it behind my seats.

if i did that, and built a center console, it should hide it pretty well. which is always good i guess...

i'll keep pondering on it, still need to find the time to be able to use the tools at the shop at my school. physics teacher is there so early in the morning, yet doesn't want to work on it during the morning... jeeze.

i took the 20% portion out of my seating and measured 10 inches from the edge of the passenger seat to the edge of the driver seat. the fabric and cushion should strecth enough to give an extra inch on either side though.

Just thought i'd toss it out for you, some OE subs are in that kind of setup. IIRC.

you could build it from the rear of the cab up towards the shifter or dash if auto, and run two tens in and get better sound and more punch, maybe make it a sealed box or bandpass type with a plexi window to use as a center console?

if i had a reg cab id do a few 8"s between the seats, you can get some beastly 8"s too, and more cone are than a single 12".

i already have the 12" though... unfortunately.

I mean i think it'll be a really great sub, but I kinda like the idea of putting in like 3 8's in a center console in due time.

baxtej44, that sub is more then enough for a regular cab, now that mine is broken-in I have had to lower the gains because it was too much for my set-up, and I have the extended cab.

I say go with the behind the seat design on your photobucket...only way I see it happening.

Unless you were to turn it sideways, and make a box/center console between the seats, and conceal the sub within.

okay so i take it you remember the sub i'm using... i do want some bangin beats, and obviously i'm limited with a standard cab... hope you're right about it being great, possibly too great, for a standard cab though.

any chance i could basically have it sideways (thus taking up the width of the sub and clearance inside the box, and the thickness of the material) and then have an extension of wood just to cover the sub? hard to explain, i will try to think of another way to describe it...

basically like a regular sub box, with the sub firing towards the passenger seat, and then with an additional "L shaped" piece of wood (well technically two pieces..) that is only enclosed on the front (near shifter) and the right (near the passenger seat)?

so if you had the box outside of the truck, you could see the sub from the top looking down or from the bottom looking up.

thinking of that, or covering the top as well, to disguise it so nobody can see it.

since there would be open airflow, it shouldn't cause a difference should it?

maybe something like this would work? (obviously not drawn to scale.. did it in about 3 min lol)

wow ha if u got that much space to do that thats great i was gonna put a 10 in between bucket seats but it just wouldnt work out so what i did was built a sub box behind my bench seat and it fits great all i did was take off the black card board thing off the seat and took a hammer and hit the brace in the middle to make more room for the sub and move the seat up i a bit and im like 6.1 haha and i have plenty of room ill put some pics on

i'll have about 10 inches between my seat once i cut off the extra 20% off the drivers seat...

my sub has a mounting depth of 4 inches

that would leave me with about 4 inches, so maybe i won't do a console, but i could put cd storage (basically just an open hole the length of two cd's (so there isn't a bunch of extra space).

if i'm going to do the sub between my seats it has to fire to one of the sides, and i wanted to do something on the side to protect the sub, otherwise i feel like it will look stupid with just a 4 inch box in there.
