Canada

Uhm ya....it's a lil chilly here right now. I just spent 7 hrs of a 10 hr day plowing snow with a chained up forklift (which would be better if it had a locker, and sidewings on the blade.....and a CAB!) but if the wind stay's down then the cold temps aren't really that bad. I'd take -40*C and no wind over -20 and a breeze.

Oh, and I just found out I get to spend some time with you BC'rs.....first 2 weeks of january in Fort St John.

it is -35*C right now, and its FREAKING COLD. its only going to get colder...

edit: here in saskatoon, SK

I agree with you about that wind man! And I know what you mean about the cab on the forklift. The one I use at work just has a roof but dang is it worthless. And up until a couple days ago it lost air in the tire with the chains on it so it would just spin the rim in the tire. Shredded the valve stem right off the tube. Defeats the purpose of chains lol. As it stands right now it's minus 6. Suprisingly mild, like scary warm for December.

lol where i come from a heat wave is 105 in the summer. yall are crazy to be that cold lol. but i guess if i buy more coats and alot of Hothands...

Yeah ..... no. You ever heard about y'all fellow 'Mericans jokin' about us all up here in Canerda about us all linvin' in igloos and such?

Not a joke.

Maybe do a search on things like "long johns" and "touque" to get ya started on what it takes to be Canadian.

Oh, and if you're a beer drinker get ready to be poluted often. We actually have alcohol in our beer, not like that piss water stuff y'all drink down there.

Also, the strippers up here actually take off ALL of their clothes. You know, because they're strippers, not toplessers. :icon_cheers:

Canada eh!. I've been waiting for two years for summer to arrive. I hear it's warmer out west. brrrrrrrrr

Tomorrow morning will be the first serious snowfall in Ottawa. they are currently calling for something like 25-30 cm of snow before the day ends. Thats not huge amounts but in the short duration it can be bad.

And this without any serious amounts of salt out there yet. I predict lots of accidents in the morning. Black ice was forming on the side streets before I left town to go home.

The only thing that can help you on Black ice is studs or chains. Regular tires tires even snow tires wont help. Theres some newer snow tires that have sand embedded in them that in theory should help. not sure how well they will wear on the roads though.

Those kind of things help keep you warm in spirit. But what do you snuggle up with to keep you warm at night?

you want something totally different...come to europe....I love it! Only place that I have been and drive 14 hours and visit 4 different countries...:headbang:

If you did it right, you could probably hit four countries in less than 10, if you count Luxemburg as a country.

LOL... My record was 3 in about 10....That was starting here in southern Germany, hitting Austria, up to Czech (love the women there) further to Poland (women are even hotter than the Czech women) then back over to Germany..

Western Canada = Expensive, Cold, and in some places desolate.. Not to say that its not a beautiful place to live, the landscape is fantastic!! I do believe however that the windchill in Calgary was -35c the other day and got pounded with 2feet of snow. Myself in Ontario just got the remanants of that storm and got about 10cm, first snow of the season for us so it could be worse.. Ontario is the best province to live in!! Not to say the other ones arent great but i dont think ill ever leave here. Unless its to go to a warm sunny state where the truck can stay out all 12 months of the year haha. good luck with your journey!!

Western Canada (i.e. the prairies) might not be the best place for you to live.

Here in Winnipeg, it's currently -30C (that's -22F) without the windchill. About the only good thing about this city is the low cost of living (one of the cheapest places in NA to live) and the fact that recessions never hit Manitoba (GDP retraction was the lowest out of all canadian provinces this year). So there are jobs to go around. But it's FLAT. Great for snowmobiling. I haven't found many wheeling spots. Where it's legal, anyway. The good news is the Canadian Shield (in Ontario, near Kenora) is a two hour drive away, and there is some GREAT terrain there for everything from quadding, snowmobiling, fishing, mountain biking....

BC is beautiful, but expensive if you live somewhere around Vancouver. I would recommend the interior of BC. Prices are a little more reasonable, you're right IN the mountains, TONS of snow, and probably not all that cold.

Calgary is okay. You're only a few hours from the Rockies, great city. BUT it's expensive. And they currently have no job openings...apparently.

As far as Saskatchewan goes....let's just say they don't know the difference between 12 and 13!!!

I think your best bet is Eastern Canada. Ontario (NOT Toronto area), Quebec (IF you speak French) or even Atlantic Canada. They have the best winters....mild and LOTS of snow!!!!

Take it from a guy who's lived all over Canada, Eastern Canada is where it's at!!!

Quebec sucks, the only good thing is you can buy beer at the grocery store with your credit card, if you have one doh.

A polar bear...

In all seriousness though, I live in the BC interior and we just got our first skiff of snow the other day... like a couple mm of it. Then it all melted. Today, it is like 22*F or -6*C, so it's really not that cold. Coldest it got here last winter was approx -10*F. It's really not that bad over here, and it's reasonably priced as opposed to around Vancouver! Lots and lots of snow higher up though, but not a lot down in the valley. :headbang:
