can you mount a c4 to a 4.0L?, if so what all would i need to do so?

In terms of actually bolting it to the engine, probably. The 2.8, 2.9, and 4.0 all share a bolt pattern. The C-4 was used in Mustangs. If you find one that was on a 2.8 it should bolt up. I'm not sure what you'd do for a torque converter though.

The C-5 which actually came in the Rangers was a pretty good trans too. Also had a lockup converter.

You can mix and match parts between a C4 and C5 as well. It is common for V8 swaps, so I imagine there are a lot of parts out there to go the other way (like V6 bellhousings)
