is it possible to swap the drive train out of a f-150 4x4 into a 1990 ranger. i'm looking to buy a complete donor vehicle for this project so i'll have all the electrical and odds and ends for this venture...appreciate all that can help me

Anything is possible. A donor vehicle would definitely be the way to go though. Ya it can be done as long as you have the time, energy, money and know-how.

yep. entirely possible. and its been done before. What year F-150?

You may have problems with the T-case. When I tried to use one out of an 84 150(it was mated to the C-6) the driveshaft(front) wouldn't clear the radius arms. All I needed was about 4 inches in(towards the center of the truck) to clear it, but it might as well been 4 miles.
