Camshaft Help?!?!

lol...what's bad about Comp? anyway i found a flat tappet cam from Comp...Nostalgia plus 271H. 480/475" lift and power range is 2200-6400 to work with the intake. oh and here's a random question. Can beehive valve springs be installed upside down?

google some of the horror stories of comp cams. plus, comp is more for sound than performance. i would go with a nice crane cam, or a lunati cam.

im not telling you not to go with comp, if you decide to go with them and it works out, more power to ya. but i wont buy another comp cam again.

got it, and the cam had this horrible whining noise. new timing set and all. switched out for a lunati, and had more power, no noise. and more lump-da-lump idle.

thank blackwidow. yeah after i posted that i actually did search to find out the problem...in other forums they've said they use recycled cores and mass production screws with quality..like quality>quanity, but for them quanity=$$$. but i'll keep looking.

just like to help out man. what do you want out of your engine? if you give me the details, ill find a cam for ya.

I plan on building a street/strip truck....more on the strip side. 302 small block, 9:1 compression, stock ported heads, summit racing stage 3 intake, headers. probably 3000rpm stall converter...I more interested in a Hydraulic roller cam mainly for reliability, and not worrying about screwing up the break-in of a flat tappet!!!

just to let you know, you really cant screw up the break in on a flat tappet cam. plus, if you change your oil regularly, that cam will last a very long time.

to break in the cam, just make sure to use the right break in lube, start the engine. bring the rpms up to 2200, and let it run for 15 mins. then let the engine cool down, and change the oil.

thats it, and your ready to go.

yes i agree roller is the way to go, but if you dont have the lifters, it can be expensive.

i guess im just old school and love the flat tappet sound.

howard cams just came out with the retro-fit roller lifter for the 302. there only $284 from summit...not sure if they have link bars. If you really have to then i'll get a flat tappet...but quick question...about how much would a custom grind Lunati Hyd Roller run?
