Camo headliner Fabric?????

so what do you just pray on the glue and stick on the fabric? Or is it like spray both and stick and peel then stretch it over???

is there a sticky or how to somewhere? My headliner is sagging, so i think i need to rip that off and redo it....

Well when I did it for my ranger, I tore off the old fabric carefully because there is 1/4" of foam under it and any large gashes will show up. But I was care and had a cushy thick kind of fabric to cover up any mistakes. When the old fabric is off make sure you doo a really good job of flaking off any old, yellow foam that's there because the glue will not stick correctly if you don't.
The glue I used was in a red can and is called Super 90 which is a 3M product at lowes. Don't cheap out and get the super 77 trust me on this I had to do it twice. Then just lay the new fabric over the headliner and fold half of it back and spray both the headliner and the half of the fabric. Read the glue instructions and let it tack up in about 2 minutes then lay the fabric out, working from the inside out. Repeat for the other side and glue the edges of the fabric around to the top/behind the headliner. Let dry and install.
It's super easy and I did all in one evening if that. It turned out great but I can't get any pictures right now because I'm in Texas and my ranger is in Pennsylvania right now.

this is a tard question I'm sure but you take the headliner out first and work on it in the garage right? I hear the wind can break that in half or something when you remove it. Looks sick though I think I might give it a try.

yes. taking it out may be a good idea. sry i couldnt help it

it was one of those questions you know the answer to but you want some confirmation because you've never done it before.

haha i know man. yea take it our. it aint hard to do, but putting it back up helps to have 2 sets of hands though, i did it with one. but damn it was AGGRIVATING! lol

I think someone needs to do a write-up on this for the tech library!!!!!!!!

ok well i can go and make one i guess. but i wont show recovering it cause mines done. if someone lived close by id do theres for free....

I've done this in a hatch back car I used to have, it's really easy to glue the fabric. The trick to doing it correctly is reading and following the instructions on the can. :) 3M makes spray glue for this specific purpose.

you can always take that foam off, and put some new stuff on... and if you want a design in the head liner, like some kind of symbol you just need to cut that out of the foam also, and glue that into the headliner.

when you put the fabric on make sure you use a tool to push it down in the corners of the image you wanted.

example... the confederate flag... having the cross raised....

the american flag... having the stars and every other strip raised.

I just did my headliner in my EXT cab, it was a royal pain. almost every single peice of plastic has to come out and you have to replace those push-tab's that hold everything together, the only way i found to get them out was with force. they break.

For the material, there is actually 'headliner material' i found at a crafts store, which is the foam covered in fabric allready. it's like 15 dollars a sq yard. The first time i put it up i used the 3m spray adhesive. after 3 days it was allready sagging. I found a superior product made by permatex at autozone, which is labled specially for healdiners and carpet. This stuff is way way better. just be sure to lay down a super thick coat or two of whatever adhesive you choose, let it set-up for about 5-10 minutes and go to town. Don't cheap out or you'll be tearing you're truck apart to redo it like i did. :D I wish i would've taken pictures, i could've done a pretty decent write up, but my camera is a POS!

you'll also need a big torx bit to remove the seatbelts to get the back panels out of and extended cab. once you get going it's not too bad, but i think if would have taken the steering wheel out i would've had an easier time of getting the headliner through the doors. it was like watching a monkey try to F%& a football watching me with that headliner.
