Ok guys so im getting ready to lift my 2wd 05 ranger, i was originally looking at some of the lift kits and other ideas but im just not convinced they are what i want so i got this idea to SAS my 2wd.
The idea is to swap leaf springs with a soild non-drive axle from a jeep 2wd. i dont forsee the spring swap being a huge issue, and the brakes shouldnt be a problem, the biggest problem i can forsee is the steering... the truck currently has the IFS steering and if i convert it i will need to get a steering box to match up, thats where i need some help, will the shaft from my truck go into a 4x4 rangers steering box or maybe a toyota steering box?
I havent started this yet and i would appreciate any ideas you guys have. i will also start posting pics of this swap.
Thanks alot

People that SAS a 98+ ranger usually use a steering box from an 83-97 ranger but have also heard, but not seen them, talk about the toyota steering boxes too.

ive seen the yota box, mounts on the outside of the frame the 460 ranger guys use it and ive seen some gen 4 with them online

So....you're going to SAS a truck and have it still be 2wd? what?

yea what would be the point? for better flex or something?

Whats the point of having the flex when your truck can't pull itself up onto an obstacle :icon_rofl:

i dont understand... we sas'd a few 2wd trucks but we did it to make them 4wd im confused

sounds like a Retro build to me......:icon_rofl:

waaayyyy back in the 80's it was all the rage to build a super tall truck....but since it was so tall just about none of them had 4wd cause the pinion angle would almost have been straight up on the front axle......

guess they were the original "Mall Crawlers".......:icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

I am doing the same thing. I have a 2wd front axle and am sticking with coil springs to make instalation and steering easier. the rest will be like the dana30 axle discription in the library section. I'm not planning to go off road and I will be running 16" jeep snowflake wheels with 235/70/16 tires, so bogusdill let them laugh it is your truck if they don't want to help, oh well the fun is building if we were all the same we would drive new chevy's. YUCK.

ive seen a truck like this before, i liked it. id go for it :icon_welder:
