I have a 1987 Ranger with the 2.9 litre V-6. I would like to register it in California. Does it have the sensors required for smog? O2 and cat converter?

It has to have the o2 sensor to run anywhere close to correctly.

Whether or not it has a cat depends on the people that have owned it for the past 40 years...

I would do some digging in the California laws concerning the subject asked. Due tonit's age, you may be exempt, or exempt with provisions. California emissions standards are very different than most other states, so I'm not sure how much help were can provide you. There are a couple of members from California that may be able to provide some insight, or at least know where to direct you as far as getting answers.

California is merciless, it goes back to '76 or whenever emissions stuff started. There is no aging out of it, Jay Leno actually just tried to get a thing passed this year to do that and they killed it.
