c clip eliminator?

anyone have any problems with the c clips on a d35 axels? just wondering if it would be a good upgrade?

Are you planning on wheeling it? Is it stock, lifted, locked, etc...?

eliminating the c-clip on the d35 isnt really an "upgrade". its just a handy modification if you plan on breaking axle shafts alot. it actually comes with its own set of problems.

I sure am glad I did mine. I haven't had any problems with it and I have had my front end flexed out pretty good.

It isn't just for if you plan on breaking axle shafts, it is also good as a general repair mod also. It allows you to get the shafts out if you have to replace the u-joints without having to pull the hog.

This mod originally started out as a necessity in order to use some locking differentials that lacked a provision to put the circlip back in (such as early Detroit Lockers). The fact you can remove the shaft without pulling the pig was a side benefit. Some (such as myself) do the mod just for that reason alone though.

Use an external spring on it. The D35 doesn't really have enough room inside the yoke for an internal spring.

you said its necissary on older lockers...does that mean newer lockers allow you to reinstall thre c-clip?

Nearly all do have a provision for reinstalling the clip now, yes.

With some (such as lunchbox lockers), I could see it being difficult to get it in (or back out of) the tiny slot though.

of course i wheel it, just went out last weekend with a bunch of yotas, had to show them how its done, only has a leveling kit and 31" bfg mt, right now but i was just wondering, dont really want to figure out how to put my wheel and everything else back on if an axel breaks and im in the boonies.

The lunch box locker I have, it was impossible to get the c-clip back in.

You should remove the c-clip and put the spring in.

i've seen everywhere part numbers that work for this mod. my problem is that i keep getting back that it is a invalid part number. Is there a specific amount of tension required and does anyone have any advise as to where i can get a few here in CO? much appreciated.

I used a spring from an Echo power equipment dealer. Ask for part #:69621655730. That is what I used on mine. It is a little hard to get it over the axle splines, but once you do, it works perfectly.

Thanx for that info. Now hopefully i can get that underway and finish my d35 swap before the snow takes its toll. 2wd jst isn't working for me at the moment.
