i have a gen 1 that had a 28 stock. i have a skyjacker 6" class II. when i installed the lift i also put in a dana 35 from a 91 explorer. i recently installed a locker up front and went to do the c- clip eliminator and bought the spring and cut to 1 1/2 inch to start. didnt work too long. i took the spring out and checked the shatf play without a spring. it is almost fully bottomed out at full droop no room for a spring. is this normal or do i have a problem?

its common..it means your getting good flex out of your set-up.

you need to find a new spring that will fit outside the axle shaft so the shaft can fully collapse without blowing the cap off the slip yoke.

is the axle fully bottomed at full droop? do i even need to un a spring? thanks

how much of the slip yoke is used depends on how much suspension travel your particular truck has. certain trucks are stiff enough in the front that they can use a spring inside the slip yoke with no problems. softer suspensions often use more of the slip yoke and thus, more of the yoke. sounds like yours is the latter of the two, thus, you blew the spring out.

you do have to run a spring to prevent the inner axle shaft from backing out of the differential.

Spring needs to be 2.5-3" long, 1-3/8" I.D., and about 20-30PPI stiffness.
