Is it possoble to just bypass the whole PATS syestem?? Yesterday i threw my keys and broke the chip inside them(my only set) leaving my truck tstranded and no way to start it. how can i get it started just 1 time to get it back home and avoid the $240 it would cost to tow it????? help please

You really can't without an expensive electronic device that is a lot more than the tow. Ford made it kind of tuff without it, that's one reason the insurance rates have come down on the later models. $240 seems kind of high for a tow, any Ford dealer can do it.

Can't bypass PATS. Even car-starters don't bypass it, they trick it into thinking the key is there. Tow it to the dealer and don't throw your keys.

Yup, you are SOL. It needs to see that chip to start. When you do a remote starter Its basically a box the stores the chip code and has a lead that goes around the ignition cylinder to trick into thinking a key is in the ignition as bent bolt states.

Most of the remote starts I've installed actually had you wrap the antenna for the chip around a spare key to avoid bypassing it. So yeah. I guess in that case as long as you weren't locked out of your truck, you would always have a spare key inside too :icon_thumby:

If you have a remote car starter you may already have a spare key

ive seen a few installers for car starters tape/zip tie in a spare key under the dash close enough for the reader to read.

which may mean you have a spare in the car.

I know nothing of PATS, but can't you have a dealer make you a new set of keys for the vehicle, instead of paying for a tow?

Not only does the new key need to be cut, to fit and turn the ignition lock cylinder, but the transponder in the key must have it's code programmed to the truck's PATS module. Without a working legit key, the dealer will need to plug their computer into the truck to program the new key's code. Hope that helps explain it.

I mostly use the Ford remote start systems in which case the PATS module simply plugs into the remote start box and has a wire with a rubber ring that you install around the ignition cylinder. Even with I use aftermarket remote starts (usually use compustar if not using a ford system) I use a Ford PATS module with it and just cut the plug and wire it into the compustar box.

Ziptie'ing a key underneath the steering column is kinda a hack way about doing it.

The vehicle will have to be towed to your dealership, you will need to have 2 new keys cut and then your old key code will have to be erased and new code programmed using IDS (Ford's diagnostic software) No other way around it unless you can convince your dealer to bring their scan tool to where your vehicle is.
