Buying. questions.

ObdII began in 95. My 95 b2300 was obdII.

1995 was a weird transition year where a lot of vehicles had an OBD-2 style connector under the dash, but the computer system was still OBD-1. The Ranger was still technically OBD-1 in 1995.

I have another question.:D
Im curious about the design differences of the 4.0 OHV over these years. I know that it had some minor change after like 92, that added a little umph.

Also how are the heads? I know the 2.9 heads are freakin horrible. Ive stripped many bolt holes on my damn heads.
They were improved but anyone still have problems?
And one dumb question. Are the heads aluminum or cast iron?

I have had problems with the good old aluminum heads in the f-150 5.4 SOHC as well.

And by the way, thanks for all your help and patience with my questions guys.

I don't think there was much change to the 4.0's until 2001 (1997 for Explorers), when Ford switched to overhead camshaft. HP was upped to 200, and TQ was up to 240. early ones 1997-2002 had issues with the timing chain guides breaking. I believe that both the OHV and SOHC 4.0 had iron block and aluminum heads. The 3.0 and Lima I4's were the ones that were all-iron. and just to throw this in, the Duratec I4 are all-aluminum. BTW, isn't the 5.4 the one that likes to shoot it's spark plugs through the hood?

haha ya thats what I have heard, but no experiece with that one yet. just stripped exhaust bolt holes and replacing a head, which takes forever!

Okay figured instead of starting a new thread id just post on this one.

So remember how I said I wanted a 4x4 4.0.....:D

Just saw this on CL and fell in love:
http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/cto/3143559503.html

Only thing is it has the 3.0 and apparently he had time for the coils and reservoirs, but not the drop brackets to save his expensive tires...:icon_confused:
I was thinking with the right gears i could get decent power out of that 3.0 and it seems like a good deal + its local.
Dont know whether the 3.0 came with 7.5 or 8.8 tho...hmmm

Anyway, haha what do you guys think?
