Now thats takin a bite out of crime.

It's a fine premise but it doesn't hold up at the retail level. The demand for fuel will remain constant and OPEC oil is required to meet that demand. You won't hurt the Big Erl OPEC importers as they will just sell to the Domestics. What you would accomplish is putting those "offending" brand retailers out of business who couldn't succeed in re-branding as "good guy" domestic retailers.

We're going to be at war over mid-eastern oil with China in 15-20 years unless we get really good at cracking shale oil. This is why China has been rapidly ramping up their military and building carriers and such. With us changing our regime's every 4-8 years we haven't done a good job with long-term vision. You can't have a long term policy with people always trying to get elected.

LINK to where our oil comes from.

List of OPEC countries.

Emails like this circulate from time to time. The fact is, any gas station you use -- regardless of brand -- sells gas made from Middle Eastern oil. Gasoline is a commodity; more specifically, a fungible commodity -- which means that an oil company that has an excess supply of gasoline on one day sells that supply to other oil companies. All gasoline is the same until just before it is loaded onto the delivery truck, when the additives (Techron, for example) are put in. So the gas you buy could -- and does -- come from anywhere, and there's no way for us to tell its origin. The gas station brand has no substantial relation to country of origin. Citgo, for example, does get a lot of its oil from Venezuela, but they also use oil from other countries, including the Middle East.

It's a nice thought, but it's not really workable.

I really don't know where our gas comes from at the station I work at. 2-3 times a day, we need to re-fill the tanks. People are just wanting their gas and don't care too much where it comes from. But a common question is being asked a lot more lately. Now people are wondering if our gas contains ethonal. It doesn't, but that could still change.

An increasingly common question, indeed. Within the last 6 months almost all the stations in this area of Alabama (East Central) have started selling a 10% ethanol blend, Wal-Mart included.

Same here in Florida. I live in Central Florida.

It's not OPEC or Treehuggers or the oil companies that are causing this. It's Wall Street speculators. watch Cspan senate hearings. Big oil and OPEC are just willing beneficiaries of deregulated Wall Street Greed. Check Texas Republican Phil Grams record of deregulaing all finance rules in the late 90s. In addition there is no way anyone could buy only "American Gas". it's all blended together for quaility control purposes, shipped in the same trucks and pipelines and then blended with each marketers special blend of additives.

Our local refinery in Warren has been pushing that their brand of gas (Kwik-Fill) is only made from North American Crude oil.

To my knowldege that plant mainly refines oil from local oil production (NW PA, SW NY).
