BUY ADVICE, DEAL/NO DEAL? Hard Shift 1 to 2, 2 to 3

Learning a lot from everyone so far

Now then I came across a 1993 xlt manual trans. for 2800 bux. Owner says it has 34k miles. It has a5 digit odometer so it could be 134k for all I know. Iseecars vin checker does give a guestimate of mileage but not exact. I don't have the vin yet but will get it when I go test drive it probably tomorrow or Monday.

Questions are for now...
1 - How would I verify true mileage?
2 - How are the 1993 manual transmissions...are they known to be troublesome....or ok. Are they somewhat better than automatics from back then?

Manual trans in a '93 is good. Major BS on 34k original miles - with a 5 digit odometer it could have 534k for all you know and is just well kept. I have an '86 F150 with 104k original miles but you'd never know it - looks awful. But I know that because I got it with 55k from my grandpa and didn't take care of it after that. Your call if you believe the seller, I wouldn't.

Thatll be the M5OD 5sp.

The most durable trans used factory in a ranger.

That's the chance you take with anything with a 5 digit odometer. You have to either know the seller and know that it doesn't have some obscene amount of miles or you can look at the truck and see if it shows a lot of miles. To me it looks pretty clean. It either has the actual 34k mileage or maybe 134k miles. Either way its not that much miles. If it had over 200k I think the body would show some issues by then.

I passed on it. Got the truck's vin and Texas DPS website confirmed the truck was 134k miles indeed. I told the old man why I won't buy and he should correct the misrepresentation. That DPS site great!

2004 Ford Ranger EDGE, 110k Miles, needs Fuel Pump Replaced

2004 Ford Ranger EDGE, 110k Miles seller wants $2800

Came across this deal. I have checked out a couple of FP replacement vids
looks like it's within my skills to replace the fuel pump but is that all there is to it or could I be overlooking something?

Owner says he was "just driving and it just shut off all of a sudden right in front of a firestone shop." The shop told him fuel pump is toast.

I am new to Rangers and I am wondering...
-Does this sound like FP? How can I tell that it's actually fuel pump and/or could it be FP & something else or something else altogether? Is there a likelihood the fuel pump is known to take out something else with it when it goes bad? I am trying to anticipate hidden costs but from experienced Edge users/owners.
-Would you guys consider this a deal for 2800 considering cost of pump $130 $130 , your time to do this job?

I'd be very wary. IMO it's worth going rate minus cost of motor and install.

Is that truck purple or blue? If its that nice blue color then I would get it. If its purple then well you would be known as that guy with the purple truck.

That guy with a purple truck .... that really got me ROFL :yahoo:

And on that note I passed on it.

But yesterday I drew the best bull - a 98 Ranger, 69k on the odometer. And it's white and a dark gray bottom. I made him an offer he could not refuse.
Later I will update my intro as new Ranger owner. But here's a quick pick

See what I mean. It's not just me who sees a purple truck as a PURPLE truck lol. Purple if fine if you have a nice custom ride with a customer purple paint job with a lot of chrome to accent it. But bone stock purple is terrible... So you bought the white and black ranger you posted a picture of? Its really nice looking. Definitely a good score with low miles. Good job.

This purple comment has me in stitches!
Yes I picked that white and black.

Something I just noticed....when I shift park to D or R the truck rpm's dip. One time it the engine stalled while I was doing a series of this test on my drive way. Checked tranny fluid it's not very clean and I just don't like the smell. It doesn't smell like burnt electronics but it just doesn't smell fresh. I will check the color in better lighting today.
I have been reading up on this. But from experienced folks where should I start to check into this?

P/s.
There are some hoses that show age and definitely need to be replaced. Don't know if these could be the culprits.
