Bumble's Build Thread

Those seats you got from me are looking awesome! Really liking the dash lights and the rear bumper. You going to make it to one of the meetups sometime?
Thanks man! I'm going to try to, the last few I've either been out of town or recovering from surgery. Let me know when the next one is and my brother and I will try to be there. I follow the Utah thread if it gets posted there.

So my C-channel bumper isn't too ghetto.
Nope, I think it takes quite a bit of effort to be ghetto. This, to me, is quite ghetto haha.

Power was out once again Tuesday when I got home from work :annoyed: so no work got done that night. But I did have the day off yesterday, so I got some work done on it. Finished drilling the brackets and welded them to the bumper, then capped the ends of it. Just need to grind the cap welds flush and prime/paint and stage one will be done. Stage 2 will probably be shackle mounts, backup lights and a receiver. These are the Ruffstuff mounts I'm thinking of using.

And It will have these kind of lights recessed inside.

Its nice to finally have a solid bumper again that hides the body lift gap, even if its not finished!

EDIT: With Ruffstuff having a sale this weekend with 17.76% off, I ordered shackle mounts and shackles. Should be here next week!

Been a bit occupied the last month and a half. Had a friend drive my ATV off a cliff a month ago, he broke a bunch of stuff, but should heal fine. He's kinda lucky to be alive. Thats where most of my free time has gone. Still haven't gotten it out, and tuition is due in a week, so progress on this might be a bit slow for another month or so. Ill post some pics of the crash because everyone loves carnage pics!

It rolled down about 800 feet, on a 70*+ incline. Its going to be a really big job to get it out, as its only accessible by vehicle on the road above, and anything bigger then a 160" wheel base won't make it up there. My Boss's ex cab long bed Dodge struggled. If the axles weren't all broken, and the brush wasn't so thick, it would probably be a piece of cake to winch out.

Anyways, with school starting, I need to keep it reliable as a DD. I have some little things to fix on it, but nothing major. Soon to come on the truck is finishing the bumper with a hitch receiver and shackle mounts. My brother has access to better and bigger welders at school, so Ill have him weld them on there, :icon_welder: then I think I'll send it off to get professionally bed lined. Had a floor jack in the back the other day, and it chipped my bedliner up pretty bad in a few places. So far haven't been impressed with the Druabak-18 I used. Even with following the directions perfectly, using heavy grit sand paper, and wiping it down until its clean with xylene, it peels off really easy once you have a edge. We will see how it holds up, if it gets really bad, I will pull it all off and have it done by rhinoliner.

If everything goes the way it should in the next 6 months, I should be able to get started on the 4x4 swap next spring. Going to start gathering parts as I get the money. First to find is a Dana 30 from a XJ non-CAD to build off of that. Then I need a 4x4 tranny parts, transfer case, drive shafts etc.

I have a Dana 30 from an MJ(Which is the same as an XJ) which all you have to do is change out the axle shafts to the newer shafts(Pretty easy to do). By the way it's the axle under my truck currently. All it needs is rotors, calipers, hubs, and a cross pin bolt(I stole it for the new axle I am putting under it).

Let me know when you're ready to get rid of it, and I'll see what position I'm in. Its still got the 3.55 and higher ratio carrier in it doesn't it? And rotors and calipers aren't a big deal, I'd be replacing those on a junker anyways. I've almost been kind of holding out for someone who has one with 4.10s in it, then I wouldn't have to re-gear to use 4x4, or 4.88/5.13 and only have to re-gear the rear when I got bigger tires. But I haven't seen any off a XJ, or they thought a re-geared stock dana 30 was worth $800.

Haha I know the feeling. that's why I picked up this one for $160. Couldn't pass it up. But yes the dana 30 has the 3.55 and higher carrier. But I know where to get one for cheap(30 pack of PBR beer) Good luck trying to find 4.10 geared axle. That's what I was searching for and I couldn't find one for less than $800 usually. I will sell it to you for $50 if you want.

Let me know when its out from under your truck, and I'll come take a look at it and see if it will work. I'll probably take it. How big of a pain is working around the CAD as far as converting it to leaf springs from the coils? Still not sure if I'm going to do Robb's kit or just do coils.

Not hard at all. If you go leaf springs then I say just torch the cast upper coil mounts off and take a flap disc to them to level it out. Then cut off the coil perches and weld on new leaf spring perches at the pinon angle you want to.

Sup dawg I saw your truck yesterday at SLCC and I LOVE it. You've done an excellent job on it so far. I just need to find some nice seats like yours.

Maybe when mine is done soon I'll come to the meetups again. :icon_thumby:

Thanks man! Sad to say that's its purpose at the moment, getting me to and from work/school. Hasn't seen dirt for a couple months now, can't afford to break anything playing on weekends since she needs to drive by Monday.

Just read though this and i must say i really like the truck, member do the 60/40 seat mod for those fancy seats, i want to!

Thanks man! In your 2006, they would probably bolt right in. Look it up to make sure, but I'm pretty sure Ive seen a 03-04 that came from the factory with those seats.

I'm just going to do the 60/40 mod and get a explorer full length

Your seats came from a 2009 ranger. But I had them in a 2001 ranger. So they will fit.

Been a while since I've updated this, nothing much has happened to her the last six months. Last fall I had a couple intake leaks, bad injector and some other crap that put a lot on hold. Just been enjoying driving her around, the snow has started melting up in the mountains now so its time to go wheeling! Some pics from the last few months.
