Building a Ranger for the snow

Decided to throw in a few pics of what I've been doing with my 91 ranger

Putting a 3-link out back, when thats done longer links out front too, Airlocked front and back

Starting with removing the crappy lift springs

Cutting out useless crossmembers and putting something more solid instead

bracket for the links

Lower links, a bit on the long side compared to what guys usually use here, hoping for better articulation with those

test fitting

A bit high in the rear but will level out with the bed in place and the extra gas tank

as this is a low budget project the coils I'm using are the front coils from an old Volvo :lol:

bracket for the upper link, hope it will hold

The rear almost ready, only missing a shock, the dealer I buy from over in the states went bankrupt so I'm not sure when I will be getting one

Testing out the flex

12inches of travel out back, like you see on the pics the front almost level have to get some softer coils out front though I'm not sure what to use

I'm guessing you live in America II sorry i mean Canada. that truck is looking really good. have you looked at FOA shocks. I have heard good things about them and seem to be a good price. good luck

I live in Iceland a matter of fact. Haven't looked into shocks for the front yet though

good looking project so far, but....what exactly leads you to think the 3 link will perform better in snow than the leaves? i mean no offense...just looks more like a rock crawler build to me.

those volvo springs look pretty soft..they going to allow you to carry sandbags in the back for added traction?

That is EXACTLY what I want to do to my Bronco II. Can you post up more details on the coils, how much lift are you running with that setup, and what you used for upper and lower coil seats?

Why the center link? Isn't a 3 link the "radius arms" and the track bar?

Why not put the shocks out board of the frame instead of inboard?

What about putting a XJ style long arm link on it so it has an upper and lower link, but goes into one before hitting the frame?

the outer links have pivots both at the frame rail and at the axle..thus without the center link, the axle is free to roll forward and aft.

the setup you mention for XJ's uses different links that dont require the center link.

its just a different way of locating the rear axle is all.

I think if/when I do this, I might go with the XJ style since my BII doesn't have much room for the center link.

Kinda weird, kind of a hybrid 3 link wishbone/panhard setup.

i have been hooked on your formula off road racing since i saw years ago on tv. that shit intense. you guys in Iceland are gods in my eyes one day i will make to your country just to see these trucks in life . i will be watching your build closely.i like your thinking .out of the box as it where.looks very simple and functional.
