build thread for 2.8 carb to chevy tbi.

Well time for a check in milage hasnt gone any where 10-12 mpg unless im using the wrong conversion ratio for my tires...
Power steering pump blew up, had to replace that and a new main tierod. She is running great, im also now completely certain that its was never rebuilt properly since my old plugs were completely fouled with oil. But i dont smell alot of oil while running. And to just keep oil pressure up at idle im havibg to run 20w50 so i now have 10psi instead of none at idle. Over all im happy but im debating on either ripping the motor out and going bigger $$$$$$$$$
Or rebuilding it $$$

10psi running that heavy of oil says it needs a rebuild or go bigger, like 4.0 or 5.0

Also that heavy of oil will hurt mileage.

Yah, I might rebuild over the summer. I'm just putting a bandaid on it for now... If y'all rebuilt y'all by your self how much did it cost y'all?

The thicker oil will help with the pressure and hopefully not end up in the combustion chamber as easily as the 10w30 would

Almost 1 year update. Hasnt stalled on me yet. Backfires from the tbi in the mornings? And after a long driving like 30 miles it will lose fuel pressure under load?? Other than that she is 10 times more dependable

How much pressure and how bad does that effect it?

It will drop from 15-20 lbs down to 5-7lbs and want to kill the motor. I think my highpressure pump may be going out due to engine bay heat

Or the wiring is getting hot enough somewhere because of either a heat source or electrical flow through it that the proper current isn't getting to the pump.

Insulate the pump and wiring in heat shielding tape or relocate both. Probably a reason why vehicles companies keep the pumps in areas where it will keep cool such as under the vehicle or even in the gas tank.

Well all the wire is in wire loom. And the high pump is mounted in a ford pump mount. Which has foam insulation in it.

I may relocate the pump to the frame rail...

The foam may be a double edge sword. May insulate from the extreme elements when mounted where it should be but also hold in unwanted heat when mounted under the hood because it can't "breathe" as easy.

Like you said, it takes awhile for it to happen.

It got really bad after 60 miles on the highway... Like just barely giving it any gas and it would drop like a rock
