Build Thread - 1-ton Chevy Swap

The Bradley Library has one I think, if not, Dr. Reyer used to have a copy of it too.

Installed front driveshaft and PS cooler today. Going to get the reservoir in and everything plumbed tomorrow. Also I need to reroute the exhaust and "tidy" a few more things up before making a trial run this weekend.

It was good to see it in action today! Looks great, I can't wait till next weekend.

I finally got some pictures back from Wirsch's buddy. These were from the trial run the weekend before the bog.

Looks good. Did you make it out to the farm over Thanksgiving? Just wondering if you've gotten the small bugs worked out. There's a few pics of my truck in there too. I had no idea they were being taken, candid camera haha.

Nope, but I drove around Wirsch's yard a little bit tonight, does that count? :thefinger:

As for the bugs, I have no idea. I think I have most of them worked out; I still want to find a different set of springs, and perhaps replace the PS pump as well.

I finally went through an added up all of my receipts for this build.

Front Axle
Steering..........................$807.81
Brakes.............................$251.77
Suspension & Axle............$2063.68
Rear Axle
Suspension & Brakes...........$416.22
Misc................................$245.15
TOTAL..........................$3784.63

Add Tires/Rims and you get $4934.63. :D

Is it still street legal?
I guess it depends on how you look at it. If I re-plated and insured it, sure, it would be "legal" to drive on the road. The tires don't stick out too far past the fenders, but that's about the only law it does pass. The front bumper height, rear bumper height, frame height and headlight heights would all be taller than allowable....

I haven't driven it since last March, so I doubt I'd get much use out of driving it on the road anyhow. If we get some big snows this winter, I might go get it and play with it a little bit. In those type of conditions, no one really cares if the truck is plated or not. I should classify it as a Farm Truck, that might actually be better.....

I dig the outcome of this project, but you really need to ditch that fawkin light bar :thefinger:
That truck has had a lightbar of some type or another on it since 2002, I'm not about to take it off now.

BGTL or not, at least we use real axles.:thefinger:

Dude, this build is incredible. That's good work paired with good parts= GREAT TRUCK. And Its cool that you support ford and chevy. It bothers me when people get so one-sided toward a brand. My family loves our Fords for DD's, but there aint nothin more fun than hopping in my rally-truck GMC S15 and ripping trails at highway speeds in dirt, silt, slop, rocks, and anything else on the path. Nothing like it at all. Yes, Ive done it in my ranger, but being my DD I worry a tiny bit. The GMC dont matter if I tear stuff up.;missingteeth;

Don't show up to the 10 year with that light bar on. If you do I'm gonna get you hammered and talk you into dismounting it with a hatchet :icon_cheers:

Hell, bradz71 is rockin a D30 and he's got more action shots in the BGTL thread than the rest of yous :thefinger: Some people need real axles so they can just put their foot in it to make up for lack of driving skills :thefinger:
