Btech GMRS20V2

I've been considering getting a gmrs radio.. been reading a little bit about how midlands don't really mix well with anything other than other midlands.. something to do with reception.
It’s all radio waves. Brand shouldn’t matter. It’s all about signal strength.

They work just fine with other radios, the main thing is just having the GMRS channels programmed into the cheapo Baofengs/etc so that you don't have to manually key in the frequencies.

I know little to nothing about radios truthfully..

But I DO know I've absolutely read multiple reports from 4x4 offroady types proclaiming what I stated above. It's been in the last few days too, so my brain fog hasn't messed it up any lol. If I could remember where.. id link to it..

OOOOH... I remember.. the reviews section of Amazon listings for assorted baofang/btech products.

It could be that these people don't know what their doing or something.. but the number of reviews that said the same thing makes me wonder.

With the older ones, that was correct. For some reason, Midland set their radios to narrow band with no way to change it. The newer ones are set to wide band, like everyone else. The older ones would work on other radios but the sender would be significantly more quiet to the receiver than the other radios using wide band.

When I was reading the reviews for the btech gmrs20v2, most of the people complaining that it wouldn't talk to anything were doing so because you cant "jailbreak" the radio to talk on ham frequencies. It's still possible to program in certain frequencies and you can listen to them but it will not transmit.
